Double Review ~ Love, in English & Love, in Spanish by Karina Halle ~ JMAC

Love, in English

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.

He speaks Spanish. I speak English.

He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.

He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.

He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.

I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.

Until now. Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth.

***

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.

Something that can never, ever be.

Or so she thinks.

Love, in Spanish

The companion to the highly emotional, scandalous and USA Today Bestselling love story - LOVE, IN ENGLISH - is finally here! Love, in Spanish is a Love, in English follow-up novel told from Mateo Casalles' POV. While Love, in Spanish touches on some events that happened in LIE (you know the ones!) it is a whole new story set a year later that continues with Vera and Mateo's "happily ever after."

Note: It should be read after
Love, in English and it is mostly new material (aka not just rehash of LIE).

***
"She sat beside me on the bus – and she changed my whole life."

Successful, wealthy and absurdly handsome – Spanish ex-football player Mateo Casalles seemed like he had it all. A high-society wife, an adorable little girl, and flashy apartments in Madrid and Barcelona only sweetened the deal. But there was more to Mateo than met the eye – a life of uncertainty and regret that colored his black and white world.

That was until Vera Miles came into his life like a shooting star. Tattooed, wild and young, Vera seemed like Mateo’s polar opposite at first. But you can’t choose who you fall in love with and the two lost souls did everything they could to be together, all while suffering the grave consequences.

Now with Mateo divorced and living in Madrid with Vera, there is a whole new set of challenges and setbacks facing the couple and rocking the foundation of their star-crossed relationship.

Unfortunately for them, the brighter the star, the faster they burn.

JMAC'S Review

I told myself I would give it a couple of days so I can really digest this story.  I still have no idea how to put into words how much I loved these books.
So, I’ve had Karina Halle’s books on my kindle for a while now, and the Love, In English books were the first I wanted to start reading of all her books.  I’m actually upset that it took me this long to read these books.  Both of these books were so different than any books I’ve ever read.  People think that when reading a “forbidden romance” involving cheating, the two characters cheat and bam, shit hits the fan.  In most cases it can be true, and with these books it kind of happened, but it was so much more than just “cheating”.

Lately I have been obsessed with “forbidden romances”, cheating in particular.  I like reading these stories because it just seems like such a real topic, and I feel most people are afraid to touch on it.  Let me tell you, Karina hit it on the head.  This story was more than a forbidden romance.  Honestly, it was a new found romance between the two characters.  A love that was so meant to be; a real love story.

Mateo and Vera were two souls put on the planet to love each other.  Just the way Mateo says “Vera” was enough to make me fall in love with him… How could Vera not?  There were so many reasons why they shouldn’t, couldn’t be in anything more than friends.  Sometimes you can feel like the whole universe is against you being happy, and either you can give up, or let it give you more strength to do what you have to do to stay happy.  Both Mateo and Vero had everything against them.  They aren’t supposed to be together, let alone stay together or have a happy life together.  I think what I loved most about both of these books, was the love that you can clearly feel coming off the pages as you read.  There were a lot of emotions coming from the books.  Emotions that made me feel so much.  Mateo is way more than your normal sexy book boyfriend.  Mateo is just on a whole other spectrum.  Love, In English was told in Vera’s pov.  It was amazing getting to see the start of everything.  Vera went to Spain to teach English to local Spaniards.  Mateo happening to be one of the Spaniards there.  From the start there was this undeniable attraction, but like I said before it was way more than that.  Of course there was sexual attraction between the two, but both Mateo and Vera connected as people.  They wanted to know more about each other.  Their likes, dislikes, dreams.  EVERYTHING.  Honestly their relationship started as friends, because it couldn’t go any further than that.  Vera lived in Canada, Mateo had a wife and child, but fate always has other plans.  They were destined to be happy together, and even though they had ALL ODDS against them.  They never gave up.  They came very close, but they never did.

In book 2, Love, in Spanish, Mateo took over.  It starts right where Love, in English finishes.  Reading a book in Mateo’s pov is something everyone should experience.  I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but in my head there was a permanent accent that I imagined him speaking in.  To say it was HOT is putting it extremely lightly.  Mateo has such a way with words. He is just such an emotional guy in every aspect.  I feel like his age has something to do with it.  He knows what he wants, and wasted enough time doing what he didn’t want, being who he didn't want to be with.  He’s finally at a point in his life where he doesn’t want to pretend anymore.  He wants to love, and love hard.  Mateo won’t take no for an answer either.  He’s going after what he wants and not stopping until he gets it.

Karina, you are just brilliant.  The story of Mateo and Vera will stay with me forever.  I love love loved it.  The journey they both took me on was just such a special journey.  I’m seriously so happy I read these books.  You will forever have a fan in me!  I can’t wait to read your other books!

If you are a romance lover, you MUST read both Love, in English, and Love, in Spanish.  It does have a bit of cheating, but in a very understandable way. If you are okay with that, then please do yourself a favor and read these books.  You will love them I promise!!!

Nicholas Tanek's The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself 5 Star Review!

Honestly I'm at a loss for words; I feel like I can't come up with the right wording to truly express how much I loved this book.
I knew minutes into reading The Coolest Way that it was going to be something I would never be able to forget, and even that's an understatement.  Don't let the title fool you, no one kills them self in this book.  Nicholas Tanek takes his readers on an emotional journey of love; gaining it, losing it, understanding it, accepting it, and fighting for it.
The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself is written for Nicholas' love "Lynn", who unfortunately passed in 2012.  I honestly felt so emotionally connected to Nicholas throughout reading this book.  I felt like he was telling me his story personally; like he wanted me to know every aspect of the life he lived, good and bad.  What I loved most is when he personally addresses the reader many times throughout the book.  To me, that was brilliant and made me feel even more connected to the story and characters.
This wasn't your typical "love" story.  There are a lot of aspects to the story.  In the end, the most important of those, love.  Learning to appreciate love, not taking it for granted.  Nicholas was lucky enough to be given the chance to experience love in the most important form; purity.
Lynn is such an inspiration to me as a woman.  She was real.  She went through things that no woman should have to go through, and more.  The two met in their teens, and shortly became friends with some of the same interests; sex, drugs and music.  What could be better than that, right?
What was an extremely close friendship, quickly turned into more.  Lynn wanted more from Nicholas, but as a young, naive man, Nicholas just wanted to have "fun".  He later learned that no one could love him, for who he truly was (kink and all), more than Lynn would.
Personally one of the things I loved about Nicholas and Lynn was the fact that they had time to explore life without each other.  Letting fate be the biggest component bringing their love back to life; and what a beautiful love to have.
Once they both realized they should be together, they were both very honest in what they had gone through in the past.  Weirdly enough they both went through some of the same things.  They both had turned to using heavy drugs and once that happened it took over their lives.  They both did many things they weren't proud of.  I found it beautiful that while they did crazy things to survive, they never passed judgement on each other.
Like I said earlier, this book is far from typical, but what makes it EXTREMELY different is the author's brutal honesty.  It takes a lot of courage to admit and come to terms with everything Nicholas shared in this book.  Knowing people can judge you for the things you did, yet not caring, because all you wanted people to know was the love you found, is just amazing, and truly inspiring.  I applaud you for that Nicholas Tanek.
Another huge factor of Lynn and Nicholas' relationship was referred to as "kink".  Some people are vanilla, while some like to explore.  There is no denying that Nicholas and Lynn were far, very far from vanilla.  But again, they accepted each other.
I honestly, truly believe there are people in your lifetime that you love, and then there is that special  someone who is your soul mate.  So all the relationships prior to meeting your "soul mate" ultimately prepare you for the love you're truly meant to experience.  Lynn was Nicholas' soul mate, and he was hers
It goes without saying that I loved the story of Nicholas and Lynn.  I'm so happy to have experienced their love.  I wish I could give this book 20 stars, because that's what it deserves, but 5 bold stars will have to do.   Nicholas you truly outdid yourself.  If your journey taught me anything about Lynn, I know she would have loved this story.  You have gained a forever fan in me!
I strongly recommend  this book to everyone.  You need to go and start this beautiful, emotional, love story that is The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself.

Is City the knight in shining armor to the damsel in distress? Can their relationship survive when a fantasy falls apart and a secret comes out t hat changes everything?

MY REVIEW:

I honestly loved this book HARD!

Throttle Me was a perfect mixture of love and sexiness.

Suzy is your definition of a good girl with a dirty mind. She has her life plan, and doesn't ever want to steer away from it.

Until one day fate decided to step in, and change Suzy's plan.

CITY.... What can I say about City... Well he screams sex.  Oh, and I forgot to mention that he rides a motorcycle.... YUMMMMM

Anyways, a horrible incident in City's past leaves him thinking he'll never find love again.  Not that he was looking, City was content hooking up with his randoms.

City has the look of a total bad ass, covered in tattoos, but really he's just a great guy.  He's pure alpha, kinky male, who knows exactly what he wants, and how to get it.

He's the exact type of guy Suzy wants to stay away from.

As we all know, fate works in mysterious ways.

When a chance meeting between the two, turn into one steamy unforgettable night, it leaves both City and Suzy craving more.

Throttle Me was honestly all types of delicious.

I loved City's hardcore side, and I loved how it brought out the "bad girl freak" in Suzy.

Throttle Me is a well deserved 5 star read.

Chelle I'm now HOOKED and need more!!!!!

Everyone go do yourselves a favor and one click Throttle Me, and start the hot, steamy ride with City and Suzy.

“Do you swear?” I asked as she set the glass back on the bar.
“What?” She gaped at me.
“Do you swear? Sim ple question. You’ve said ‘heck’ and ‘friggin’’ so far, but nothing dirty.”
“Oh, um, yeah, I s wear.” Her cheeks turned pink and a small smile spread across her face. “I’m just used to watching my words with the kids around all day.”
“Prove it,” I said as I stared in her blue sapphire eyes.
“What? Why?”
“Cause I need to k now if it’s in you. Are you all good girl or is the re more under there dying to come out?” I hid the smile and laughter that was so close to breaking free from m y lips. The pink of her cheeks spread across her face . I know I embarrassed her, but fuck, I needed to k now if I stood a chance.
“Yes, I swear. Wha t do you think I am? I’m not a child, City.” She gl ared at me as she raised the drink to her lips and wrapp ed them around the rim. Fuck I wanted those lips wrapped around my shaft, taking me deep and sucking me off.
“Never said you we re, babe. Do you drink besides tonight?” I asked, n ow smiling because I knew she was upset. I liked the f ire I saw in her eyes when I pointed out her good g irl qualities – she obviously didn’t like being labeled .
“Sometimes. I’m ju st responsible. I don’t drink and drive. My dad use d to be a cop and it was drilled into my head at an earl y age.” The words she spoke hit me like a ton of br icks. Drunk driving was the one thing in the world that c aused my blood to boil.
Good girl teacher with a cop father? Just my luck. “Nothin’ wrong wit h that. Virgin daiquiris aren’t always your thing, th en?”
“Why? Do I have to be a drinker? I mean does it make me less of an adult?”
“No, Suzy. Just tr ying to get a feel for who you are – what you are.”

My Review

I truly enjoyed reading Scarred by Love.  It was a perfectly written story about relationships and love.  Scarred by Love takes you on a journey of what really happens in relationships.  I loved the "realness" that brought to the book.

It was so easy for me to connect to Riley's character on a personal level.  Riley's fresh out of an abusive relationship, and she meets Zander; God Zander is so delicious.  A former football player with tattoos, and he's in a band! Yeah, he is all types of delicious.

After some failed attempts, Zander finally gets Riley on board and their journey is one I won't soon forget.  I loved every second of their relationship; they fought, made up, and fell more and more in love with each other.  Scarred by Love wasn't the description of a "perfect" love, but it sure was real.

Sometimes you go through hell and back in a relationship, but when two people truly love each other, they both find a way to make it work.  That's exactly what Zander and Riley did.

I truly did love this story.  I give it a well deserved 5 stars.  Great job C.A. Harms.  I can't wait to read more from you!!

Shayne McClendon's Yes to Everything

I truly enjoyed reading Yes to Everything; it was an emotional, at times heartbreaking, perfect love story.  And as we all know, I love a good love story!

I loved everything about Brooke Kincaid's character.  At a young age, due to horrific events, Brooke was left to step up her responsibilities and raise her 3 younger siblings.

What Brooke thinks is a small, one time job to make some quick cash, winds up being a huge life changing moment. Brooke never would've guessed the amazingly stunning, sexy Bradshaw twins would ever even consider her being apart of their band. It becomes an offer she knows she just can't refuse.

Once Brooke starts to get used to her new life, she meets the delicious, older Rex.
This former marine is a sexy, muscled,  pure alpha male and he isn't ashamed to take what he wants.  Rex owns the tattoo shop Brooke takes her younger brother to, while they're stopped in Chicago.

What was a chance meeting, turns into a hard, strong, sexy, heated, beautiful love, that most people don't have the luck of experiencing.

With one horrible act of vicious violence, everything Brooke had loved and cherished, gets brutally taken away from her, leaving her in a shell of the person she once was.

Yes to Everything opened my eyes to fate.  Everything happens for a reason.  Knowing this doesn't take the pain away, or make you hurt any less.  Sometimes people come into our lives as a lesson, to prepare us for those we have yet to let in.

Shayne's writing displayed such true heartfelt emotions.  While reading this book I spent half the time laughing, and the other half crying with a broken heart.

This story takes you on a journey of losing everything you once held so close to your heart, and figuring out if there's anyway to move forward.  And if you decide to move forward, figuring out if you can ever possibly give in to a love like the one you just lost, ever again.

Yes to Everything was a great read, Shayne has gained a forever fan in me!!

Add to GoodReads

If I could give this book a 10 star rating I would!

This book was one of those books that had me hooked from the first page.  I just couldn't put it down; everything about this book kept me on my toes.

All For Maddie was a dysfunctional, beautifully written story.  The situations were rough, scary, and definitely messed with your emotions. Being a first time young mother, I definitely connected, and understood certain characters.

All for Maddie started off rough, meaning the situations were almost hard to get through, but I can't deny that this book was tragically beautiful.

Jettie's writing was so intense; my emotions were going crazy.  I felt a range of feelings from love, hate, sexiness, happiness, and sadness.

All for Maddie was a well deserved 5 stars.  Jettie Woodruff has made a forever fan in me!!

Excerpt #1

“Papaw, you watch dis wif me?” Maddie asked, holding up her princess movie.
My dad stood and went to her. I instantly jerked my hand from Alex’s, giving him a dirty look. He smirked. I wanted to punch him.
“Papaw has a better idea. Why don’t you stay here with papaw and nana tonight and let mommy have an adult night?” he offered, smiling over at me.
Man, this sucked. I didn’t want his smiling approval. I didn’t want him to like Alex. How could he like Alex? Alex was a conspirator. He couldn’t like Alex.
“No Dad, Alex came here to spend the weekend with her,” I tried.
“Alex is going to take her away from me. Alex can deal with it,” my dad joked, with Alex.
“Its fine, sweetie. She can stay if she wants to,” Alex approved, smiling at me.
I got up to go to bathroom. I had to. I was going to vomit, on him! I leaned in to Alex, catching the smile on his face when he thought that I was going to play his make believe game and kiss him or something. “You’re going to a hotel,” I seductively whispered in his ear.

Excerpt #2

“What’s wrong, baby? Did you have a bad dream?”
“No. A gemin under my bed,” she assured me.
“A gemin?” I repeated, not sure what the heck she was talking about.
“Uh-huh, I go in your bed, K?”
I carried her back to bed with me and snuggled her little body close to mine.
“A gemin under you bed?” she asked.
“What is a gemin?” I asked, wondering if she knew herself.
She rolled to her back so she could demonstrate with her hands.
“It dat big,” she gestured. “Dem can’t have no water.”
“Oh, my God!” I said, sitting up, reaching for my phone. I didn’t care that it was after two in the morning.
“What the hell, Whit?” Jaron answered on the third ring. “Do you know what time it is?”
“YES! You freaking let her watch Gremlins?”
“They’re cute,” he said.
“They’re monsters. She’s three for God’s sake.”
“I’ll tell her they’re not real tomorrow. Sorry, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jaron said, hanging up on me. Grrrr. I couldn’t believe he let her watch the Gremlins.

Excerpt #3

“I’m not your pawn. You can’t treat me like this,” I yelled drunk words, trying to make sense.
Alex walked back out wearing his jeans.
“I have never treated you like my pawn.”
“You think I’m young and stupid and I just have to do everything—”
My words were cut off by his lips on mine. He tossed me toward to the bed and jerked my shoes off, flinging them roughly across the room. I stared in shock as he unsnapped my jeans and pulled them crudely over my hips.
“Alex, stop. What are you doing?”
He didn’t listen. He ran his fingers between my legs, aggressively shoving two fingers inside of me, dragging them up my wet slit, to my clit, and back inside of me.
“You want me to stop, Whitley?”
“No,” I whimpered as he assaulted my throbbing clitoris.
I dropped from my elbows as he moved down and took me with his mouth, violating my clit with intense pleasure. I felt like I was going to faint. It was so powerful and concentrated. I didn’t think he was ever going to let me come. I would get so close. As soon as I would start to writhe my hips into his mouth, he would slow down.
“Ah, right there. Don’t stop,” I begged with a whimper.
As soon as I screamed out in unbelievable pleasure he was kissing me. This was so messed up. I just walked in on him fucking someone else, and now I was tasting my pussy on his mouth.
“Fuck me, Alex,” I pleaded, panting heavily in his mouth.
He pulled back and stared down at me.
“I’m not going to fuck you, Whitley. I’m going to make love to you, but not tonight. Not now. Do you know when I am going to make love to you?”
I couldn’t answer. I just stared wide eyed and shook my head.
“I’m going to make love to you when you tell me to make love to you. When you are not drunk. Have you ever had sex sober, Whitley?”

Writing is more than a passion for me. I write adult books, romance and erotica. I did recently try my hand at a young adult romance, but because of the gutter that my mind seems to fall into. It quickly went into rated R mode. I reside in Ohio. I love living in Ohio, except maybe the cold winters, and the snow, well maybe the hot summers too. Ah hell, I hate Ohio.

I love to push my limits in writing, fuel the senses and emotions of my readers. I have some great supporters and love them all dearly.

Do you need a Sugar Daddy?

Rie Warren's Sugar Daddy was such a beautiful, emotional read.  What started off as a "business proposal" turned into so much more than the characters could have seen coming.

Sugar Daddy was a great read.  I loved everything about this book from the sexy characters, the steamy scenes and the strong emotion you felt from each character.  It was all just perfect.

I loved Rie Warren's writing. I felt I connected with the characters on a personal level; like I was the one going through the hardships they were going through.  I found myself wondering multiple times if I would have been made the same decisions had I been in their position.

If you like a great story about relationships, love, hurt, and happiness; Sugar Daddy is the perfect read.  This was the first book that I read, written by Rie, but it most definitely won't be my last!

Aine Kelley's Finding Home Blog Tour

If you don't know by now, I'm a sucker for a good love story.  Aine Kelley's Finding Home was just that.Finding Home was a beautiful story of two broken people finding their way home through love.

I loved Sam's character.  She was your typical girl who gave up on love, due to her horrible track record of crappy boyfriends.

Sam has no family that she can count on besides her best friend Jenny.  Due to a budget cut that causes Sam to lose her first "real" job before she even starts, she takes a leap of faith and moves to California with Jenny and her family.

I also love love loved Ben, Jenny's brother.  Ben is just yummy all around.  He's a sexy rugby player, who has a body to die for.  A horrible tragedy leaves Ben alone and broken; no longer a believer in love.

Both Sam and Ben can't deny the strong pull that drives them to each other. But can two people, as broken as them, find love in each other?

Aine Kelly has such a beautiful way with words that I couldn't stop reading. Each chapter went into the next, and before I knew it, I was finished.  I laughed, cried, smiled, and cried some more.  I felt every emotion that both Ben and Sam went through.

Finding Home was the perfect story of what happens when you stop letting your past control your future.  If you just trust that things happen for a reason, instead of trying to control it, you could truly be happy.

It was a beautiful story of love.  I loved everything about Finding Home.  I give it a well deserved 5 stars, and look forward to reading more from Aine Kelley.  She has definitely gained a forever fan!

Looking up into her moist eyes I pull her close to me. Our arms hug each other with a fierceness that’s getting rid of every loose fragment of damage. We’re expelling each and every bad memory and all the shit that’s fucked us up. “I don’t want to let you go. Can we stay like this for a little while longer?” Her head nods on my shoulder as she sinks deeper into our embrace.
“You feel incredible in my arms. I never thought much about guardian angels, but I think you’ve been sent just for me. Your arms wrapping around me make everything go away.”
Sam’s arms grip me with even more vigor. I feel her breath and lips tickle my ear as she turns her head into the crook of my neck. Feather light kisses touch my neck and earlobe as she whispers; “You’re wrong Ben; you’re my angel. You make me believe that love can exist.” Her head pulls back but her arms stay firmly in place. “Your voice brought light into my life when all I could see was darkness. When I’m all alone, it’s your voice that I hear when I drift off to sleep at night.”
I turn and press my lips onto hers tenderly and hold them there for several seconds before breaking away. We stay holding each other well into the night. Finally, her breaths change and I realize she’s fallen asleep on my shoulder. I gently shift her body close and place one arm underneath her legs to pick her up. She stirs slightly and turns her head into the curve of my neck and inhales deeply. “Mmm, you smell so good.”
I hold her against me as I chuckle, “Oh yeah? It’s a combination of sweat, wine, and you.”
Sighing she lifts her head with her eyes still closed. “How is it you know to say the exact thing a woman likes to hear?”
“I don’t know about that. I guess you bring it out of me.”
We get into the truck, and I buckle her up. I fight off the images of the accident and instead focus on Sam.  I listen to her steady breaths and watch her sleep. She hypnotizes me.  I’m captivated by her heart, beauty and soul. Her capacity to let me in is remarkable and humbling especially when I don’t think I deserve it. Home has to feel a lot like this because I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
