Review - Traitor - Shannon Myers - Rebecca

Lauren
One box
Lives were lost and relationships destroyed because of that one box. I don't care what the cost is, I won't stop until I have answers. Even if it means declaring war on the detective who once had my heart.

Mike
Every war has its casualties
I was just naive enough to believe that it wouldn't hit so close to home. There's so much blood on my hands, that I'm guilty by association at this point. I don't know how to keep Lauren safe without betraying the club, but I'm willing to die trying.

"Chaos together is a hell of a lot better than a lifetime apart."

In this epic second story in the Renegade series, Shannon Myers pulls out all the stops. After reading Renegade, I could not wait to see where Traitor went, and Lord was it worth the wait! I couldn't put it down - sleepless nights and a lot of uppercut threats throughout! ;) Twists and turns and angst beyond belief. I'm usually really good at predicting where a story will go, but Traitor is one that left me shocked at every turn and dying to turn the page to find out what I was going to be hit with next.

Mike and Lauren's story is one that spans years, and intertwines with so many other lives and events. Not only are we dealing with the romance factor, but we are given such an amazingly perfect combination of suspense, thrills, angst, and general chaos. Just when you think you have it figured out and are coming to a happily ever after, the rug gets pulled out from under you and the Renegade way intervenes.

Shannon Myers' writing flows so smoothly and the details and descriptions make it so easy to visualize everything. She weaves a tale so perfectly!

Will they get their HEA? Will they ever figure out life together or apart? Will you be able to breathe at the end of this story? You'll just have to read it to find out - and I highly recommend you do, as this is one story that will stick with you and leave you with so many emotions and feelings you won't really know how to process it. Book hangover for DAYS! :D

Stand is the last in an epic series from AL Jackson. It's a tale weaved together of emotional pull and devastatingly beautiful heart break and truly pulls every feeling it possibly can from the depths of your soul. Amy has a gift... a true gift for being able to construct stories that absolutely bleed you dry. Her words are weaved in such a way you're not just reading... You're feeling it all. They gut you at such a level that not many authors can achieve. Stand is no exception.

In Stand we're given the story of the last Sunder boy. The quiet one. The one who bears the weight of the world on his shoulders. The one who stands by and cheers everyone on as they find their true happiness, yet hasn't yet found his own... We're given love, loss, passion, and so much sincere emotion that I wouldn't be able to put words together that could do it justice. You need to read and feel all this yourself. This is one of those novels that needs to be read and felt by everyone.

Although it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the complete series to really appreciate everything there is to offer from this phenomenal cast of amazing characters and words that will leave you absolutely breathless! I can't wait to see what next great work of literary art AL has in store for us!

Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

Once again, Ginger Scott hits a home-run with In Your Dreams. It's no secret I'm a HUGE  fan of Ginger's writing, and her ability to put into words thorough, well-written stories that have a way of capturing my heart. In Your Dreams is no exception to this.  The story of Casey and Murphy is one that has layers and depth, and true heart. Their slower start to their journey was still intriguing enough that it kept me turning the pages and wanting more, as I just needed to know what was coming next!

The main characters are absolutely perfect as they are presented.  They're realistic. They're flawed.  They're insecure. They're perfect. I love that their story really starts when Casey doesn't even realize the impact he made on Murphy.  I also love that this story isn't just about a couple and their journey to come together, it's about pursuing your dreams and never giving up.  There's more to this than just a love story – there's life stories.  Life stories that you fall into and fall in love with.

Overall, this story is another win.  Realistic, complex, memorable, swoon-worthy.  Once again – Ginger Scott nailed it! ;)

RDB/Review - Baking & Babies - Tara Sivec - Rebecca

Purchase Links:
Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/1KBTZk8
Amazon AU: http://bit.ly/1N1wwMU

First... let me say this...
SCREW YOU, TARA SIVEC AND I REFUSE TO HUG IT OUT!!! hashtag:ThisDamnBookMadeMeCry hashtag:ScrewYouTomBrady
Seriously.  I adore the heck out of Tara's RomComs.  I'm not even going to try to play coy and pretend they're just alright.  I pee my pants. I get dirty looks from the family for laughing and snorting so much.  I say ridiculous crap that no one in their right mind has a clue about what I'm saying all because... TARAMOTHERFUGGINSIVEC GOT IT IN MY HEAD!
It's sorcery.  She is honestly one of my favorite authors on the planet for a number of reasons, but the #1 reason is - she can weave a damn tale together with precision accuracy and make me question my sanity.  She can write across multiple genres and still make me love every word.  She can make me laugh my butt off, and cry... in the same story.

Baking & Babies is a culmination of years of my favorite stories.  The laughs are endless... until... the end, of course (does that make any sense?!?!  Probably not.  You'll understand when you get there... )  The Chocolate Lovers and Chocoholics series aren't exactly for the faint of heart.  They're crude.  They're obnoxious.  They're absolutely genius in humor, with perfectly punctuated comical poundings coming and coming and coming... and then coming one more time just for good measure.

I adore them. I may have the sense of humor of a teenage boy, but I mean, I do live with all boys and I in fact have a teenage son, so maybe they've left me where I just can't function like a normal human being.   But... with that... GOD, do these books make me laugh til I cry and they're some of the first I recommend to people.

I had worried that maybe by this point in this series these books wouldn't have the same oomph for me, but it definitely didn't fail to deliver - and this book came at the perfect time when I just needed a good, comical, laugh til I cry session in life.   If you need a feel-good pick-me-up this is your book and if you haven't started from the first book that started it all, do yourself a favor and getcha some!

I'm in love with Marco - and that Italian Stallion is mine, btw. :)

 Love M.D.

As an accomplished interior designer in San Francisco’s Bay Area, Zoë Jenkins is used to transforming empty spaces into masterpieces. She leaves little square footage in her personal life for anything outside of her thriving business and a renewed relationship with her twin brother. After a decade spent ripped apart by circumstance and an entire ocean’s distance, she depends on no one but him. Until a sexy surgeon walks into her life.

Although Zoë can’t deny her attraction to the charming and benevolent Morgan Drake, he’s on her mental list of everything she should avoid. Past experience taught Zoë that dating clients compromises business. Add a not-yet-dissolved marriage to the mix and Doctor Hottie is definitely Doctor Off-limits.

Dr. Morgan Drake is surprised at the undeniable chemistry he feels when he’s in the same room as Zoë. The strikingly beautiful and solitary designer he hired to fill his new-start, new-city home makes it abundantly clear there will never be anything between them. But twelve years of medical school breeds persistence. He sets out to persuade the pants off Zoë Jenkins and show her what her empty spaces are missing.

Intense passion and amazing sex have a way of masking secrets-secrets that unravel a dangerous web of fraud, corruption and conspiracy that turn Zoë’s quiet spaces into a world where nothing is as it seems. With her life on the line, the good doctor responsible for her fiercest betrayal might just be the only one worthy of her finest interior masterpiece-this time, of her heart.

 Love, Lies & The D.A.

Jada McLean is about to get married in nine days, when she walks in on her fiancé in a little more than a compromising position. Days later, she’s on a trip that she intends to be relaxing and a prelude to her fresh start, when she runs into the rude, obnoxious, but gorgeous Jonathan Kole.

Jonathan Kole is San Francisco’s newest District Attorney. When he finds himself deeply attracted to a stunning beauty, he has no idea that she’s about to get into BIG trouble with the law—and he’ll be the one presiding over her trial. To make matters worse, his father is the lawyer representing her in the high-profile case.

When a series of events force them together over New Year’s weekend, Jonathan’s feelings and ethics will come into question, while Jada comes to terms with the fact that she is falling for the man that will be responsible for attempting to put her behind bars… Little do they know, they're both about to fall into a whirlwind so deep, it will send both their lives spiraling out of control.

 Uncorked

RDB/Review - 120 Days - M. Stratton - Rebecca

120 Days Bannerebook cover (1)
Synopsis
120 days... The average number of days someone stays at Last Resort.
17 weeks. Surrounded by love, laughter and support.
4 months more time than they had before they walked through the door.
Real estate developer Ethan McGregor’s life was changed forever when his younger brother told him he was dying of cancer. Ethan was ready to do whatever it took to save Evan, but Evan had other plans.
Say goodbye…
Samantha Truman runs the privately-funded Last Resort. Watching her parent’s drive and determination to live longer than the doctors gave them was the inspiration for the resort. It is her heart and soul--she lives to make sure that each day is precious, and one more sunrise or sunset can make all the difference the guests at Last Resort need.
After finding his brother’s journal, and discovering more about Last Resort, Ethan is determined to find out if this place is one of those “too good to be true” places that turn out to be a scam. But he was not ready for Samantha Truman, he was not ready for everything to change, for his point of view in life to be so incredibly altered, for the world to turn its axis. There are, after all, some things Ethan can’t control, who to fall in love with is one of them.
How much can change in 120 days?
11938180_1620119284924950_1280000344_n

120 days is one of the few books I can say truly brought me to an excessive amount of tears throughout.  I can't stop saying how this book is really something special.  There are so many levels of emotions that get pulled throughout reading this book, and yet through all the tears I still felt so hopeful. There is still love, beauty, and truly LIVING even in the face of death.

We know early on that there are terminal patients staying at this beautiful resort, so of course you're expecting the finality of everything, but the build up and the stories of really living just shines through and brings SO much joy and happiness in those final days. M. Stratton did an amazing job at being able to take something that affects so many of us, either directly or through a loved one, and show us how there can be hope and beauty even in the time of decline and with the end in the near future. Never give up hope, never give up, find the beauty in living...

"The passion we bring to our lives is what we make of it."

I also truly love that the true stories of real people affected were weaved into it. I feel such a personal connection to this book and I really wish there was a resort like this! Even through all the loss and tears and pain of it, you're left hopeful.  You're left knowing that living goes on... even if it's in those left behind. You're left... somehow still cleansed and with a smile... this is one you just don't want to miss out on!

Review - Wild Reckless - Ginger Scott - Rebecca

WILD RECKLESS
Very Mature YA Contemporary Romance
Scheduled to release: March 17, 2015

BLURB:
Kensington Worth had a vision for her senior year. It involved her best friends, her posh private school in downtown Chicago and time alone with her piano until her audition was perfected, a guaranteed ticket into the best music programs in the world.

Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.

5 Stars

To quote Ginger Scott's acknowledgments...
“This book.  This book!”
Seriously.  By the time I turned that final page and got to the acknowledgments that's exactly what was in my head.  “This book!” Although, I may have added an expletive in between those two words...

Since the first book of Ginger's I read, I was hooked by her writing.  There's no doubt in my mind that when more people start finding out how amazingly well-written her stories are, she's going to soar in popularity and quickly become one of those authors with thousands and thousands of fans and not a single empty friend request space available.  Yes, I'm telling you to stalk her now, before it's too late and you're left saying “I WISH I'd have found her sooner!”

On to Wild Reckless.

In this story we're taken into a world of young love, heartbreak, loss, gifts, despair, hope... this story deals with so many emotions on so many levels.  I've skimmed some reviews and saw one Amazon complaint being that there was just too much drama going on and in a way there was, but you know what?  That's real life for many and why I felt able to relate so much to this story.  When it rains, it pours... and how we deal with that all and how we are affected ultimately affects the next thing. In Owen's case in this book, he seemed to just be on a downward spiral, never quite being able to catch grasp on to anything to hold him and keep him secure enough to stabilize himself.  Yet... there's hope.  There's always hope.   That seed may start small, but if nurtured and just given a chance it can grow.  And grow beautifully.  And that's exactly what happens here.  For him “hope” comes in the form of a girl named Kensington, who is battling her own inner struggles as everything she's known her whole life changes and she's left trying to find her place in her new world.  Their stories intertwine, yet still are created with their own personal development well-explored.

In true Ginger Scott fashion, I was beat into the feels and went through the full gamut of emotions.   Moments went from raised eyebrows to butterflies in my stomach – the anticipation killing me slowly … Stabbing pain in my chest to my insides just bursting at the beauty of what I was “witnessing” happen before my eyes… Complete pain and tears flowing to a new kind of tears for the exact opposite reason I started with [Ginger owes me a box of tissue now :P  I may settle for a coffee or tea, though! ;)]   Yes, there was a LOT going on throughout this book, but it weaved together beautifully and cast light on things that happen, yet aren't always discussed and may be more easily swept away from public view – whether in real life or stories – yet Ginger never shies away from subjects that others may fear writing about.   I really appreciate this about her works, especially here.   We are given beauty and love, but not having it thrown in our faces without any kind of buildup.  We're given the negatives, along with the positives.  We're given the harsh reality of life and what it takes to get to better points, but still having that tainted past clinging to our every move, threatening to drown us, and bring us back to the pits of despair.  We're built up, shattered, reconstructed, torn down, and molded back together with cracks repaired and beauty on the horizon.

“I will love you... for always”

As will I.  The heartstrings are pulled tight and this book is easily one of my favorite reads.  There is now a Wild Reckless place in my heart … for always.
