Review - The Fable of Us by Nicole Williams - JMAC

Her heart can’t be destroyed by the same person twice. At least that’s what Clara Abbot finds herself hoping when she runs into Boone Cavanaugh less than an hour after returning to Charleston.

As kids, Clara and Boone had been each other’s firsts, and no one or nothing could stand in the way of their forever. But all kids have to grow up sometime. The troubled son of the town drunk winding up with the firstborn daughter of the local royalty was a happy ending even the most imaginative of fairy tales couldn’t make believable.

Their fable came to an end as most do: tragically. Boone might have done the leaving, but it was Clara who got away and made a new life for herself in California. But after seven years of dodging her hometown, she’s only back in Charleston for seven days to celebrate her sister’s wedding. She won’t let her overbearing family or her run-in with Boone rattle her—though rattling her is obviously Boone’s primary objective.

Boone is her past and her past is behind her, a mere speck in the rearview. So why does she feel it coming back every time she looks at him? Why does she see it every time he looks back?

Just when Clara’s life can’t possibly get more complicated, the ground shifts, and she discovers just how far her family was willing to go to keep the wrong boy out of her life. Was it really Boone who left her? Or was it Clara who left him?

The truth will be hard to face. Especially when she discovers most of her life has been built on lies.

OMG I didn’t realize how much I missed Nicole William’s books until I started reading The Fable of Us.  I was hooked from the very first page, until the book was over.  I seriously didn’t want it to end.
The Fable of Us is a second chance romance between Boone and Clara, who lost each-other when they were young.  Due to a lot of lies, and misunderstandings they both hurt each-other.  A surprise meeting, and offer bring them back into each-others’ lives.
Boone is my new favorite bbf of Nicole (Jude is my book husband).  I loved him.  He was the type of man who was tough, but deep deep down, he was just a guy who lost the love of his life which in turn left him cold and miserable.
The relationship between Boone and Clara was so real.  They had such unfinished business so when they connected again there was a lot of anger and resentment.  Their feelings were so easy to understand.  Usually with a break up in a book someone was at fault in the relationship, in this story, neither person was at fault.  So you understood the hurt and pain coming from both Boone and Clara.
I don’t even need to explain how much of an amazing writer Nicole is.  She writes with passion behind each word.  I easily get caught up in her stories wishing for them to never end.  The Fable of Us was amazing.  If you love a second chance romance, this one is the one for you.  Without a doubt this book was easily a 5 star read.
Nicole, you are such an amazing writer, and you’ll always have a forever fan in me!

Blurb
The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No.  The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question.  On camera.
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type.  Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.
Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Simple right?
Let’s face it.  It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…
And this one is ours.

Review ~ Mastered by Maya Banks ~ JMAC

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Surrender Trilogy and the Breathless Trilogy knows what makes readers hot. Now she turns it up in Mastered, the explosive first book in a new series of a desire too dangerous to resist.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Wow I freaking LOVED this book.  I have been a huge Maya Banks fan since I started actively reading 2 1/2 years ago.  Maya has remained one of my favorite authors of all time.  So when the opportunity came for me to review Mastered, I of course couldn't even think of turning it down.

If you are familiar with any of Maya's work, then you already know she writes erotic romance.  What I love most is that she doesn't hold back.  She is descriptive, and god is her writing hot.

Mastered was such a great book.  Drake is such a sexy alpha male dominant who takes what he wants, no questions asked.  He isn't used to girls who aren't already throwing themselves at him, so when Evangeline doesn't have the same reaction, Drake is more than intrigued.  She soon becomes someone he needs in his life.

Though the couple sort of have an insta feel, I couldn't help but love them.  Drake and Evangeline together were just HOT.  They fit together.  Though they had a sub/dom relationship, it was so much more.  Mastered is not a book that is for the faint heart.  It is dirty, filthy, sexy, and delicious in all the right (or wrong) ways. I'll be honestly Maya is one of the only authors whose words literally make me blush.  The last 15% was just like a WTF moment.  My heart was just beating so fast and I honestly was so shocked.  Then BAM it was over.  If anyone knows me I hate cliffys, only because I am so impatient to wait for the other books.  So be warned, Mastered is a book with a cliffy, but it's oh so good.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves erotica books.  Maya is such a fabulous writer, I don't think I would ever be disappointed in anything she comes out with.  Do yourself a favor and read this sexy book.  It is definitely a well deserved 5 star read!
