In the end, it never mattered. I would always be on the wrong side of the tracks, and they would always lead me to the wrong station. Changing my people, places, and things throughout the years didn’t help change the outcome of the choices I’d made. Of the things I’d done.

At the end of the day…

I was already nailed to the cross.

An Act of Obsession was the 2nd of KC Lynn's books that I read.  The first being Fighting Temptation which is the first book in the Men of Honor series.  I really enjoyed that book and eventually wanted to read the others.  When I read the synopsis for An Act of Obsession I knew I needed to read it.  I only wish I read them all in order so that I got the full effect of all the characters.  Either way, I'm so happy I read An Act of Obsession.  It was perfect.  I started reading this book at 9pm and didn't stop until I was finished at 2am.

I absolutely love fighter books, and though I don't consider An Act of Obsession a fighter book, the hero Kolan is a sexy, bad-ass, retired fighter.  KC seems to have the perfect alpha males, who love hard. That by far is my favorite thing, when a guy is a hard-ass, yet will love with his every being.  Kolan is the perfect example of that. 

Sophie had a past she was running/hiding from.  She knew she couldn't get close to anyone because of what happened before, and what she knew was eventually going to come again.  She just wanted to start over, start new.  

From the start Kolan and Sophie had sexual tension.  They were both clearly attracted to each other but you also could tell they were both hiding who they really were.  

Kolan and Sophie's story was so amazing.  I can't really get into why because it would ruin it for those who haven't read the book yet.  An Act of Obsession is the story of accepting who you are, and knowing that your past doesn't determine your future.  I think the biggest message this book gives, is that everyone is worthy of love.  Feeling loved, being in love, and loving someone in return. 

This story was beyond a 5 star read.  Definitely a favorite of 2016.  I do recommend that you read the others, only so you are familiar with all the characters, but it can totally be read as a stand alone.  I know after reading this, I am going back to the Men of Honor series and reading them all in order. 

KC Lynn, you did an amazing job with this book, and have created a forever fan in me!

Reaching my SUV, I place her feet on the ground and cage her against the passenger door, bracing both my hands on either side of her head. “And what about you, Lia?” I ask, dipping my head in close to hers. “Hmm? You know my secrets. What about yours?”

She might not know all of mine but she knows enough.

“What is it you want to know?” she asks, a slight tremble in her voice.

“I want to know who you are and where you came from. But more than anything, I want to know what you’re hiding under that scarf.”

The stark pain that enters her eyes strikes me to my fucking core. “Trust me, you don’t want to see what’s under there. I can’t even bear to look at it myself.”

“Nothing scares me.”

It’s a complete lie. She scares the hell out of me.

A heavy silence descends upon us, her pretty eyes wide and fearful.

“What are you so afraid of?” I ask.

Her breath hitches, emotion shining bright in her gaze. “Everything.”

There’s so much despair in that one word that I want to fucking kill whoever put it there. Unable to resist, I gently drop my forehead on hers, my jaw locking as I restrain myself from doing what I really want to do.

“I’m going to respect your privacy…for now. But one day, you’re going to tell me who made you so afraid. And if they’re still breathing—they won’t be for much longer.”

Her eyes fall closed, lip trembling as she tries to shield her pain from me. “Some secrets, Kolan, are best left unknown.”

“Not between us. The day will come when there will be no more secrets between us.”

Her eyes open, locking with mine, but she remains silent. I press my lips to her forehead then reach for the door handle. “Come on. Let’s go home.”
