I absolutely adored Jennifer Michael's debut novel, Deceit in Bloom, which was book one in this series, but holy guacamole that cliffhanger left me dying to know what happened next!! I was so glad I didn't have to wait long for Vengeance in Bloom to show up on my Kindle. Vengeance in Bloom is a page turning, nail-biting, moral questioning, heartbreaking, steamy as heck, jaw dropping, absolutely gripping, suspenseful story with twists and turns at every turn of the page. Everything I thought I knew - I didn't. Everything I questioned turned out to be one more crazy twist that I had no idea how it would culminate.  The story not only gripped me, but made me lose sleep as I just could NOT put it down - I had to find out what happened!

You definitely have to read book one in the series to know the background, as VIB picks up right where DIB left off. All the unanswered questions from book one end up answered in book two (which I absolutely adored, because I hate when I'm left after a series wondering if I missed something and still confused).  VIB is well-written from start to finish, and has everything I could ask for in a story. I adored the characters, and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen to them next.  It's a story high on the drama factor, but it plays so well into the suspense of it all - and the love story intertwined into it all is one I loved. This is one series I'd recommend to anyone!

As a child, Jennifer Michael dreamed of being an author. Life and adulting eventually pushed that dream down to a mere fantasy, which was where it stayed for years. Then, through a stroke of luck and a Kindle, she found the indie romance world, and the dream that was long ago deemed unattainable became a reality. Writing fulfills pieces of her she lost long ago. Jennifer writes stories that range from sweet and sultry to dark and daring. Behind her computer, she’s constantly dreaming up where she’ll go, what new characters she’ll meet along the way, and what genre she will concur next. From her house in southwest Florida, she spends far too much time wishing she were at the beach with a good book. She’s an avid reader of fiction, but is a huge fan of gritty stories with deep emotion or dark twisty plot twists. She’s also known to indulge in guilty pleasure television shows. She gets sucked into the world of characters from all mediums. She loves to hear from her readers so make sure to check her out on social media.

Blog Tour ~ Falling to Pieces by Leddy Harper ~ JMAC

FALLING TO PIECES EBOOK.jpg

Synopsis round.jpg

How do you repair a broken life?
Home is a dark place of anguish and pain for seventeen-year-old Bree Jacobs, forced to endure emotional and physical torment daily at the hands of a violently unstable mother. Bree’s only escape is high school, particularly her history class taught by young, handsome, kind and caring Axel Taylor. Mr. Taylor becomes Bree’s dearest friend, a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on, and soon their shared affection grows into something greater. But by reaching out to protect her—to mend her breaks and soothe her wounds—Axel has crossed a dangerous line, resulting in two shattered lives instead of just one. Six years later, they will meet again: Bree, still battling the demons that continue to possess her, and Axel, reduced to taking work as a substitute teacher wherever he can find it. Once again he will feel compelled to rescue her. But this time it will be different, because now the yearnings of a loving heart won’t be silenced by suspicious minds. And now there’s more than one life that desperately needs saving.

4.5 Stars
Falling to Pieces was a really great book.  Leddy has a way with words, as I’ve previously stated in all of my reviews of her books.  Her writing, no matter the subject matter, will suck you right in and hold you prisoner.
“Thank you for saving me, Axel.  You’re extremely good at two things when it comes to me… saving me, and destroying me.”
Falling to Pieces is the story of Axel and Bree.   Axel is Bree’s history teacher in high school, and because of the things Bree has to endure at home Axel takes a liking to Bree.  He wants to be there to protect her, and at first it starts off innocent.  Axel otherwise known as Mr. Taylor, knows Bree has no one to protect her from what she’s dealing with at home, so he tries his best to help, not knowing he’s only making things worse.  Somewhere between Axel trying to help Bree, the feelings they have for each other become blurred.
“I had wanted someone to talk to for so long, but I had no idea that it would’ve come in the form of a sexy, demanding history teacher.  How ironic.  I was the girl he couldn’t protect.  And he was the guy I couldn’t touch.”

They both find themselves having to be careful around each other, knowing that what they are experiencing is far from innocent. One second things are going smooth, the next its chaos.  I honestly had no idea what was going to happen.
“She was the student that had ended me.  The student that nearly ended my career.  My life.”
One part of me so badly wanted them to be together, who am I kidding? All of me wanted them to be together, even though it’s obviously frowned upon.  I didn’t care.  I wanted them to be together, to love each other, and live happily ever after.  But you never get what you want when reading most books.
“Bree, you’re the best person I’ve ever known.  I’d rather endure this pain with the memory of you, than to feel nothing at all.”
From the start, I loved this book.  I know I mentioned it in the beginning of the review, but the writing in this book is just flawless.  Falling to Pieces is beautifully written, and I think if I had to base my review solely on how an author writes, I’d have to give this book 10 stars because the writing is that good.  I had a hard time deciding on a number rating.  I just wanted to leave that part blank and say I loved this book, that’s it.  Go buy it because it is worth reading.  The only thing I have to say is, the reason this book is rated 4.5 stars is because though TECHNICALLY this book is a student teacher, there wasn’t enough student teacher intimacy in MY opinion.  It’s so hard to explain, because yes this book is a student teacher romance, but it isn’t like other student teacher books that I’ve read.  I feel like all of the emotions were there, and though there was a scene that left everything to your imagination, I wish there was more of the forbidden aspect in this book.  All in all Falling to Pieces is a great book, just as a huge fan of forbidden/taboo books, I wish there was more of that aspect.  But please don’t let that steer you away from this book, because seriously it is a really good book.
“What we have isn’t physical or perverse, it’s real.  It’s honest.  And it’s so damn good.  The best thing I’ve ever had.”
Leddy is the type of author that should never stop writing.  I don’t care what she writes about, she needs to always make sure she’s writing.  I look forward to reading more of Leddy’s books!! If you don’t mind a s/t romance, this book is definatley one you don’t want to miss!!

Finally, he took a deep breath and scrutinized me with his intense stare, making me feel as though a heat wave had blasted through my body, despite the sixty-degree weather and cool breeze. “I didn’t want to make it seem like an invitation to stop by, because that would be completely inappropriate. I understand I came to your house when you were sick, but I’ve since realized how wrong that was. And I swore I wouldn’t do it again—unless it’s absolutely needed. Unless you’re in trouble and need me to come. Other than that, I have no business at your house, and you have no business at mine. What good would it do for me to tell you where I live? Why would I need to tell you that?”
Axel had always been really good about not making me feel rejected, even when rejecting me. He had a way of wording things to ease the blow, and I was fine with that. I understood our friendship, and I never expected anything beyond it. I’d always kept our conversations clean, free of anything remotely close to indecent topics. So his explanation sent a hard punch to my chest, knocking the wind out of me. It hurt, stung, and the pain rippled through me until it morphed into anger. The anger bubbled, boiling into rage, which left my face heated from the fire it ignited within me.
“Gee, I don’t know, Mr. Taylor.” I spread my arms wide, throwing every ounce of fury into my words and enunciating it with my body language. “Maybe so something like this wouldn’t happen? Had I known that over the river and through the woods, to Axel Taylor’s house I go…I wouldn’t have made the trip! But I’m glad I know how you really feel. This was a good thing—me stumbling over here like this. Because now I know that you see me as…what, Axel? A stalker? Some kid who’d randomly stop by your house and peek through the windows? Do you think of me as a peeping Tom? Or maybe you’re worried I’d come by when you’re not home and sneak inside to rifle through your underwear drawer and curl up in your bed. Fuck you.” I spun on my heel and took off toward the line of trees.
“Aubrey! Wait!” He must’ve only taken three steps before reaching me, grabbing my upper arm and pulling me into his hard body. In the process of halting my escape, he managed to turn me around so that when I fell into him, my face slammed against his bare chest. His warm, sweaty, bare chest.
I froze, unable to move or fight back. Somehow, my hands ended up on his sides, just above the waistband of his jeans. The fingers of one hand remained wrapped around my upper arm while the others cautiously caressed my back. I could hear the harsh, angry beats of his heart through his chest, thumping against my ear like heavy bass through a speaker. Or was that the sound of my own heartbeat deafening me?
“Bree…that’s not what I meant.”
He moved his hand from my upper back to the side of my face, threading his long fingers through the strands of hair next to my ear. He kept it there for a beat before using that hold to pull my head away, angling it until we were face to face. His eyes clouded over with an intense darkness, and even though I wanted to look away, I couldn’t. The usually bright-blue color came to life with a hypnotizing depth, holding me hostage and defenseless against it. I became instantly powerless to stop the hold his fierce stare had over me.
“You’re taking my words out of context. You know I don’t think those things about you. If I did, would I continue talking to you every night? No. If I thought, even for a second, that befriending you would be hazardous to my safety or dangerous to either of us, I would have never started this to begin with. I didn’t tell you where I live for several reasons, but none of them are even close to your assumptions.”
I skimmed my hands over his sides and up his front, pressing them flat to the center of his solid, hairless chest. His skin reminded me of a layer of silk over hard rock. This was definitely not a boy’s body. It belonged to a man.
That one move offered me some distance from him. It put a barrier between us. Even if my small hands were no match against his strength, it still gave me a tiny sense of security. In a span of two minutes, my only friend had managed to flip my entire world upside down, leaving me with the worst case of vertigo.
“But you said I have no business at your house…”
“Yes,” he said softly, punctuating his one word with a slow nod. “I said that because it’s true. It wasn’t meant to be mean.”
I swallowed and attempted to lower my gaze, needing to break eye contact, but he wouldn’t allow it, tipping my chin up with a finger. “You said you had several reasons. What are they? If that’s not what you meant, then tell me why.” My voice was quiet but strong, unwavering in my demand for answers.
He blinked a few times. Dark lashes that would make any woman jealous rested on his cheeks before reaching his eyebrows again. When he exhaled, his warm breath fluttered across my face, reminding me of a summer’s breeze. Then, once he seemed composed enough to continue, his eyes met mine again. This time, instead of fierce intensity, they grew troubled. He seemed sad, or possibly distraught. Guarded even. Panic filled me as I watched him struggle for words. Tingling fear that started in my toes, worked its way up my body until my hands shook against his chest and unshed tears stabbed the backs of my eyes.
“Bree…”
“Just get it over with, Axel,” I begged, my chest heaving with short pants, none deep enough to fill my lungs properly. My head began to spin, and the metallic taste on my tongue warned me of an impending blackout if my brain didn’t receive oxygen soon. “Stop beating around the bush and spit it out. You can’t possibly hurt me more than you already have, so stop trying to protect me and just fucking say it.”
“I’m not trying to protect you. I’m trying to protect myself.” His words came out rough and scratchy, yet filled with air. They sounded desperate, heavy with emotion that I couldn’t comprehend. “And maybe I’m also protecting you, but not the way you think.”
The lack of oxygen to my brain must’ve been worse than I originally thought, because in the blink of an eye, my hands had gone from his chest, where they kept him at a distance, to his face, cupping his unshaven cheeks and pulling him closer to me. So close that every breath he took put pressure on my breasts.
“Tell me,” I whispered desperately.

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.
She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

  ★ MY REVIEW
★★★★½
Rebecca Rohman is a FANTASTIC writer! Love, Lies, and the DA was my first book I'd read by her and I was quite impressed.  Love, MD doesn't fail to deliver, either.  I fell in love with Morgan Drake from his first little smirk, and was swooning throughout.  He's a charmer, and says and does all the right things.  There were times when I wanted to tell Zoe "OHMYGAWD HOW CAN YOU EVEN RESIST FOR A SECOND?!!?" and yet, times I just felt so much agony I couldn't even handle it.  I just couldn't wait for the progression with these two... and progress they did!  There's a wonderful balance of steam, angst, emotions, turmoil, heatbreak, action, chaos, etc. I love that in true Rebecca Rohman style things happen you don't even see coming and you're left gasping for air waiting to see how it plays out!

I also love that we get to see dual points of view.  I love knowing what's going on with each character and seeing how they interact. They're mature, strong characters apart and together they're just... *swoons*  I also love that nothing felt rushed in this book, and that Rebecca Rohman takes the time to really intricately weave together a story, never sparing any details.

Although not main characters in this story, we see some characters from Love, Lies & the D.A. brought up in this book, so although you don't *have* to have read it to dive into this, it is helpful so you're not wondering who the heck those people are and why they're mentioned so many times.

Overall I really enjoyed this novel.  Yet, once again, Rebecca Rohman left me a satisfied reader.  Don't be intimidated by the novel size, either, as the way this book sucks you in you'll be so enraptured you won't even be overwhelmed.  It's non-stop fabulousness! :D

  ★ EXCERPT
The next morning, I wake to an empty bed. I slip on some panties and one of Morgan’s shirts and head downstairs in search of him. Peaches and Pixie bask in the sun by the pool, watching him as he swims. He’s already made a pot of coffee, so I pour myself a cup and sit outside on one of the Adirondack chairs facing the pool. My crew comes to greet me, but Morgan is engrossed in his swimming and does not appear to notice me. I suspect this might be part of his daily routine—his body contours tell me that. He looks up, and a broad smile stretches across his face when he sees me. His hair lies all back as he propels his body out of the water by his palms. “Good Morning,” I say. “Good morning to you, too.” He kisses me and wraps a nearby towel around his hips. “Hungry? I was going to make you some breakfast.” “Maybe a little,” I respond. “Good, because I prepared everything already,” he says, stretching out his hands to help me up. “I just need to fix the eggs.” In the kitchen, as he scrambles eggs on the stovetop, I circle my arms around his almost naked body from behind. He switches off the stove and turns to face me. “Did you sleep well?” “A little. It was more than the last few weeks, so I guess that’s a step in the right direction.” He raises my body and places me on the island, pecking me softly on the lips. “I could prescribe something to help you get some rest, or I can recommend something herbal. You hardly sleep anymore.” “I know. Maybe in a few days if things don’t improve.” “Let’s go on a trip somewhere. It’ll take your mind off things.” “We’ll see. Jada invited us to go on a getaway with their family. I don’t know the specifics yet, but I think it might be a good idea.” “Let me know as soon as you have the details so I can make sure my shifts are covered. It’s easier to change things around at the clinic. I want to see you smile again.” He kisses me softly on my neck and my lips, and I’m surprised when I feel the need for more than just his sweet caress. Circling him in my arms, I slowly part my lips, and feel his tongue gently graze mine. I pull him closer by the towel that surrounds his hips and slip my hands over his groin. “I miss you,” I whisper. “I miss you too, baby.” I’ve woken him and as I massage his arousal, I take pleasure at the feel of his hands roaming over my body. He lifts his shirt over my head before slipping his tongue into my mouth. I pull the towel away and push his trunks down as far as I can stretch. With my foot, I shove them further until they drop to the floor. He kicks them away while I glide my hands over his rock-hard erection. “How do you want it?” he asks. “Go down on me,” I reply, deepening our kiss. “Then I want you to screw me from behind.” He places one of my legs on the countertop and slips the fabric of my thong to the side. I welcome the feel of his fingers slipping between my folds as he circles them above and inside me. As he devours my lips, I relish the feel of his firm body against my palms. He lowers his head, planting soft kisses on my neck, then he circles my breasts. Moments later, he pulls my panties away. He lowers his head and teases me with kisses circling my core. With his tongue, he starts a pleasurable onslaught of licking and sucking my clit, intermittently and forcefully moving his fingers over me. The heat rises between my thighs but I pull away, reserving my release. “Oh God, babe. I need you inside me.” He pulls me off the counter and turns me around so my back is to his front. He places one of my thighs on the surface, pinning it in place with his arm then he slowly enters me from behind. Slowly, slowly moving in and out of me. “Zoë, you feel incredible,” he whispers, nibbling my ear. With his fingers, he begins an endless assault on my front. “Oh Jesus, Morgan…harder,” I cry as my body becomes submerged in pure sexual pleasure. Bending me over the counter, he gives me what I crave, what I so desperately desire. “Oh yes, Morgan.” My knees go weak. I know I’m close to losing all control. “No way, not yet,” he says, slipping out of me. Holding my hand, he walks me to the living room sofa. He sits, centering his body in the middle, leaning back. I’m about to straddle him when he stops me. “Come here, baby. I want to taste you all over again.” He raises my leg above his shoulder, and places it on the back of the couch. He sits up, and with two fingers, repeatedly penetrates me and unleashes his tongue over me again. Tingling sensations exude through my thighs. “Oh God, yes, babe.” I tighten my grip on his hair, basking in the pleasure that he is so eager to give me. Finally, he relents, and I lower my body over his erection. I move slowly and sensually over his arousal, grinding my hips into his. He sits up and clasps his hands in mine as I rotate my body over his. Sounds of raw sex fills the room—the continuous sounds of his reentry, the sexual cries that escape my lips, his labored breathing and groans as I bury him inside me. “Yes, Zoë, yes,” he says, holding me by my hips, slamming me firmly above him and taking over my lips once more. Sitting back, I repeatedly pound my hips into his, while circling my core with my fingers. “Oh fuck, Zoë,” he shouts then pulls me close in his arms, boring inside me. I feel him continuously spasm, and as I rapidly continue to circle my pleats, I join him in his prolonged release. I lay with my head against his chest, breathing heavily. We relax while he folds me in his arms and kisses me tenderly on my lips. I can’t help but get distracted and erupt in laughter when Peaches sits watching me, slowly twisting her head as if she’s utterly confused. “What’s so funny?” “We have an audience,” I laugh. Now Pixie has joined her, too. He sits up, “What? They never saw you have sex before?” “No, they’re virgins. We’re corrupting my poor animals.” “That must have been quite the show.” I coil on top of him, and it is while I’m there that I realize today, for the first time in almost three weeks, I laughed. “I’ve missed hearing you laugh.” I kiss him again. I don’t want to think about why I’ve not been able to laugh.   Love M.D. by Rebecca Rohman Sexy 5

4.5 stars
Wow! I actually had to go back and double check to make sure this was, in fact, a debut novel.  Sure enough it is.  Stacy L. Darnell puts together an overall GREAT story here!

I went in to this story blindly - not remembering how I stumbled across it when I saw it on my Kindle.  I loved the cover a lot and the title and the tag line left me intrigued... I wanted to know what the torment would be.  I didn't even want to read the synopsis, I just wanted to go in, and I'm so glad I did and so glad I took a chance on this debut novel!

The beginning was a little slow of a start for me, and I couldn't help but start to think mayyyyyybe it was all just going to be super lovey dovey and I wouldn't get the "torment".  Lovey dovey, dripping with sweetness, is usually not my style, Lord knows I love me some angst and torture, but I was intrigued enough to continue on, as with a title like this there just had to be something coming...

As the story developed further - BAM!  There it comes!  The torment just slapped me in the face over... and over... and over... and OMG OVER!  There were twists and turns I just did NOT even see coming, especially after such a sweet start, but I am NOT complaining as those twists kept me glued to my Kindle.  I couldn't put it down! I read it through in a single sitting - not even being willing to put it down when I went to get a drink or use the restroom.  Just when I thought things were starting to smooth out and we'd be back to the swooning there'd be another surprise around the corner that left me going "WTF?? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! WHATTTT???"

I loved that we got three differing points of view in this story as well.  I think that helped to ultimately bring it all together and to help develop each character -- not only from the way they were viewed by others, but by what they were struggling with inside their own minds and bodies.  Things they each did made sense as you got more of their side of things, and it helped me to feel a connection to the three main characters.  I felt the pain of being stuck in this triangle of emotions and really wasn't able to pick a "team___" I'd have chosen to be on.  I felt for each of them, I really did.

If you're looking for sweet, with a side of surprise after surprise... and of course, a slathering of torment, I highly recommend you read this book.  I'll be stalking Stacy L. Darnell and looking forward to her future works - major kudos for doing this well on your first published work!

Excerpt – Sam’s POV

The sound of tapping woke me up. I cracked my eyes open, waiting for everything to come into focus. The sun peeked through my bedroom curtains. It was such a beautiful morning. Shaking my head with a wry smirk, I crawled off the bed, knowing only one person would be plinking pebbles at my window.

I shuffled to my window and spread the curtains wide. Smiling up at me was my Alec. I didn’t know how it was possible and had never experienced anything like it in my life, but damn, I loved him.

He waved me down, and I noticed he had a Starbucks cup in his hand. He knew me too well. I was a coffee and hot tea junkie and thanked God every single day that we had a Starbucks within five miles from anywhere in town. I threw my bathrobe on over my sleep shorts and tank top and ran downstairs to see what my sweet guy was up to.

“Hi baby,” I said as I wrapped my arms around him and my body molded into his.
“Good morning Samone,” he said back as he smiled. “I have a surprise for you,” he chuckled, knowing how I loved surprises, especially from him.

Duran.  There's no lie in that statement.  I love her beyond as a person (as she's one of the sweetest people I know) - I love the heck out of her as a writer!  She knows how to pull emotions from me -- even when I don't want to let her pull emotions from me. Romance novels sometimes make me "meh", but every one Gabbie writes has the ability to pull me over to the more romance side, yet include enough angst to keep me glued to the story.

Nick is totally freaking swoon-worthy. Even when Taylor is being so determined to not let him in he's got all the right things going on and you can only fall harder for him (and wonder what the heck she's doing at times!)  There are parts where I wanted to hate her for pushing him, but at the same time I could relate so much!  She has all the right reasons for being scared... She's had some horrid things happen and it's completely understandable to lock down, but Nick... Now he's just all sorts of perfection all around and I love how things ended up developing!

There is great character development - both on their own and in relation to each other.  All around this is a well-weaved together story.  I could've gone for a bit more towards the end, but I completely understand why it was written the way it was after asking the author.  It makes sense, it really does.

If you're ready to find your next fave book bf this is the book for you!

Tears are cascading down my cheeks now. The pain and sorrow of speaking about it has taken over. Admitting I want nothing more than to forget should have me feeling shameful for giving up, but instead the admission has me feeling some sense of relief for standing up for myself. It’s all I ever wanted from the moment I left that small town. To forget and never look back.
“So he just wins?”
“He only wins if I let the action of what he did to me rule my life.”
“It should have never happened,” Nick repeats.
“This is why you need to walk away, Nick.”
We both remain silent after I state the words. A grim atmosphere overtakes the entire room for the next several minutes. My heart has always been broken, but knowing Nick may heed my words and walk away has me dreadfully holding my breath, preparing myself for the heartache to come.
“Is he why you’ve been pushing me away? Because you think that way of yourself?”
“Yes,” I rasp out. “Trust is still the hardest thing for me to do. It’s easier to not trust, than to have it broken,” I announce to him, trying to swallow the lump that is sitting in my throat.
“That’s all you’ve ever expected from me, isn’t it? For me to break your trust?”
Closing my eyes, I laugh humorlessly. “You’ve already done it several times.” He seems puzzled as he takes in my answer. “You don’t take orders very well,” I remind him.
He grins, the simple turn of his lips lightening the despair surrounding us.
“That was before I realized just how important you are.” His confession has the dark walls surrounding my heart slowly shattering. “I’m a determined man, Taylor, and I’m determined to earn your trust,” he declares.
“Why?”
Placing his hand on my cheek, he says, “I can’t explain it, Taylor, but since the day I met you I knew you were different. You were someone I knew I couldn’t let go of.”
My once shattered heart is slowly mending. The sympathy he was giving is replaced with affection, and suddenly I want to fight to hold onto it.
“All I ask is that you give me a chance to earn your trust, Taylor.”

Gabbie is a Southern California native, who lives with her wonderful husband, two amazing kids and a senior citizen kitty. When she’s not writing you can find her reading or sneaking off for a run. Some might say it’s a crazy life, but she wouldn’t change anything about it.
