My name is Evelyn.
I met Devon and instantly fell for him.
Weeks later he fell for my best friend.
Never one to make waves, I watched as they started a life together. I stood by as their family grew, was the maid of honor at their wedding and the godmother to their children. All the while, I was longing for him, watching as he became the perfect husband and father. I was never jealous. I wasn’t even angry that my best friend had the only person I wanted. I had simply resigned myself to living without his love, but still being a part of his life.
Then, one terrible day, my best friend died.
She died and we all struggled to live life without her. Slowly, as the pain eased, our eyes opened and Devon finally saw me.
This is a story about second chances and second choices.
This is the story of how my life changed in the absence of Olivia.
I really need to
start this review by saying that I LOVED THIS STORY. The Absence of Olivia was the perfect story mixture of heartache
and happiness.
To be honest I’ve
never read any of Anie’s books. When I saw
the cover to The Absence of Olivia I was really intrigued, then after reading
the blurb I knew I NEEDED to read this book.
As we all know a favorite type of book that I love reading are emotional
ones, and after reading the blurb, it seemed like an extremely emotional
book. Girl Loses best friend and is left
with her best friend’s husband who she’s been in love with forever…. UM def my
kind of book. It was different reading a
book with chapters going from before Olivia died to Present time after her
death. I love Olivia’s character, and
the bond that was stronger than ever between her and Evelyn. Their friendship was one people are only
lucky to find in their life.
“She was my best friend, and the only way I was ever going to have a
niece and nephew. She was my
family. And it really sucked that I was
in love with her husband.”
As I started reading
The Absence of Olivia, I knew it was going to be so much more than what I originally
thought. Evelyn has lost her best friend. The pain that she goes through with this loss
is unexplainable. I felt the pain radiating
off of every page. Evelyn promised
Olivia that she would take care of her family, and she lived everyday trying
her hardest to do so. Evelyn knew it
would be the hardest thing shed ever do.
How was she supposed to fill in for Olivia? Oh I forgot to mention that Olivia’s husband
Devon, has been the guy Evelyn has wanted since they met back in college. Both Devon and Evelyn always had this weird,
strange connection, but they both loved Olivia too much to ever do anything
behind her back, so it kind of just stayed at this forbidden crush.
“A part of me had wondered what his hands felt like. For years.
Ever since the day we’d met. Now I
knew. Now I knew they were incredible.”
At first I was all
like … omg this is Devon and Evelyn’s chance.
Now they can finally make each other happy, and it would’ve been what
Olivia wanted, for them to both find love.
And who better than each other?
But then I get introduced to Nate and im all team Nate. Evelyn struggles with her decisions. She feels she can’t swoop in and take Olivia’s
spot. She doesn’t want to be second
choice to anyone including Devon. Then Nate
comes into her life and shows her what it’s like to been seen first. To be a first choice. GOSHHHH Nate is just amazing. *SWOON* He was perfect and I really wanted
everything to work out with them.
“His words had so much power: the power to save me, the power to kill
me, the power to render me completely broken, unable to pub myself back
together.”
The Absence of Olivia
is a beautiful heartbreaking story of loss.
Losing your friends, loved ones, and in the mix of it all, losing
yourself. But with losing yourself comes
finding yourself. And with finding
yourself comes finding the one you’re meant to love.
“You deserve to be someone’s first choice, Evelyn. You’re worth so much more than you’re asking
for. You ask people for the bare
minimum, and then thank them when they give it to you. You deserve more.”
I can’t say it enough
how much I loved this story. It was so
beautiful, sad, painful, and rewarding all wrapped into one. Do yourself a favor and read this book!
Anie, you have a fan
in me!
